About SpecialtyCare

SpecialtyCare is the market leader in perfusion and intraoperative neuromonitoring, and the industry’s choice for autotransfusion, sterile processing consulting, surgical assist, and minimally invasive surgical support. Doctors and hospitals should always have the best possible means to ensure the most positive patient outcomes, while simultaneously maintaining their own financial health and success. To help our customers achieve this, we are committed to delivering exceptional care outcomes, patient safety, and financial results in more than 1,200 hospitals and health systems, supporting 13,500 physicians during 500,000+ procedures annually. With over 1,800 clinicians providing the highest possible quality care, we have a national presence that gives our medical team access to extensive, unmatched clinical data for conducting research to identify trends, determine benchmarks, create new and better practices, and innovation that advances patient care.

SpecialtyCare holds a Health Care Staffing Certification and an Ambulatory Health Care Accreditation from The Joint Commission and we have our own surgical neurophysiologists training program that is registered with the Department of Labor as an apprenticeship and recognized by ABRET as a pathway towards certification. This training program includes a fully equipped operating room for training our clinicians. We develop expertise beyond required certifications so that your surgical team can be certain they have the best partner for clinical excellence.

SPecialtyCare Associates

At SpecialtyCare, we never lose sight that our top priority is to the people that trust us to care for them – our patients and their families. We challenge the status quo and thrive in pursuing opportunities to advance what’s possible in the operating room. We want our customers to feel at ease, confident, and certain about our capabilities. We want to connect with them as members of the same team, working toward the same common goals. oPERATING ROOM QUALITY

There are few places where quality is more vital than in an operating room. When lives are on the line, surgeons need to be surrounded by the best – an outstanding surgical team, top-of-the-line equipment, and processes that ensure their OR is running as smoothly and as efficiently as possible. SpecialtyCare is committed to delivering this and more by designing systems that evaluate and improve the quality, safety, and effectiveness of clinical services. We are proud to be accredited and certified by The Joint Commission, which validates our commitment to a higher standard of service and care.

The SpecialtyCare Clinical Quality Indicator Program provides every customer with confidential quality reports on a regular basis to support their quality and process improvement initiatives. Clinical quality measures are collected and compared to benchmarks to identify best practices and highlight improved outcomes. We also use our proprietary and robust multi-institutional database, SCOPE, the SpecialtyCare Operative Procedural Registry™, to conduct research that drives improvement throughout the industry.

All of these performance metrics help our medical office, which offers both clinical and statistical expertise, to:

  • Identify successful processes and benchmark performance
  • Evaluate and modify clinical procedures to provide the best patient outcomes
  • Increase the industry’s body of knowledge
  • Develop best-in-class education for our associates

ACCREDITED BY THE JOINT COMMISSION

Accredited and certified by The Joint Commission – evidence of our commitment to a higher standard of service and care.

Members of the public and the SpecialtyCare team may contact The Joint Commission’s Office of Quality Monitoring to report any concerns about the quality and safety of patient care by calling 800.994.6610 or emailing [email protected]. SpecialtyCare associates may also use the internal Alertline at 800.481.6982 to file a concern.

SPecialtyCare EDUCATION & TRAINING

As trendsetters in the healthcare industry and leading innovators in the OR, SpecialtyCare understands that continuous improvement doesn’t happen without continuous learning. To achieve the best possible outcomes for patients, it is vital that our leaders stay up-to-date and knowledgeable in the latest healthcare trends, techniques, and evidence-based practices. And it is to educate our clinicians and technicians so that they can utilize these best practices in the OR. We invest a significant amount of time and resources into the training of our associates because it just makes sense. We want them to confidently walk into any OR, integrate fully with any OR team, and feel fully prepared for the task at hand. Our people are the heart of everything we do, and they make us a trusted name in the industry for more than 1,200 hospitals. So why wouldn’t we want to invest in their career?

To provide a structured and robust training program, we developed and launched SpecialtyCare University in 2010. This education and training program is customized to each specific service line we offer. Formal training for our associates takes place at SpecialtyCare headquarters in Brentwood, TN and features:

  • Didactic training in a traditional classroom setting
  • Simulation center featuring a fully equipped OR for training
  • Lectures on regulatory and legal issues that ensure awareness of, and adherence to, the very latest compliance standards

In addition, webinars and virtual conferencing are regularly used to deliver lectures and demonstrations that keep our clinicians updated on the latest clinical practices, regulatory issues, and service techniques. Local training is also provided by clinically trained associates in the field. These clinicians are backed by SpecialtyCare University with the latest information and best practices in learning and development.

background

SpecialtyCare believes it is incumbent upon all providers to be good stewards of the business of healthcare.

SPecialtyCare COMPLIANCE

SpecialtyCare maintains a comprehensive compliance program to help protect our business partners and to support our belief that providers should be good stewards of the business side of health care. To prevent incurring damages, penalties, criminal sanctions, and/or administrative remedies, physicians and hospitals must comply with all applicable federal and state laws, including:

  • The Anti-Kickback Statute
  • The False Claims Act
  • The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • The Stark Law

They must also ensure any allied partners are compliant with applicable laws governing the services they provide. If not, the actions (or possibly inactions) of those partners could create compliance issues for their organization.

SpecialtyCare Specializes in Healthcare Compliance

At SpecialtyCare, adhering to applicable laws and helping protect our clients from the risk of compliance violations is simply part of our standard process. It’s integral to who we are and how we operate. Maintaining compliance is a key component of our overall service model and reinforces our ability to provide our partners and patients with the best possible clinical and financial outcomes.

We maintain a comprehensive compliance program that helps limit exposure for our partners by:

  • Training employees on healthcare statutes, regulations, and other compliance directives upon hire and periodically thereafter
  • Conducting exclusion list checks to ensure we do not hire or retain employees who have been excluded by federal or state programs
  • Offering a secure, anonymous process for receiving complaints or compliance concerns to encourage issue reporting
  • Monitoring certain operations for compliance (e.g., billing to help ensure submitted claims comply with government and private payer requirements, which can help reduce the chance of false claims allegations)

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Objectives

SpecialtyCare is committed to delivering superior clinical outcomes through quality care, compliance, safety, innovation, and a diverse culture that fosters respect and dignity for all our teammates and customers.

SpecialtyCare supports a cultural framework that includes principles of ethics and integrity embedded into our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) plans that support the communities where we live and work.

  • Our company is committed to achieving a Net Zero emissions target by 2050. In 2023, SpecialtyCare matched 10% of its electricity use with Green-e certified renewable energy certificates (RECs).
  • We will minimize our impact on the environment through sustainability, maintenance, and waste management policies.
  • Our relentless focus is to drive safety and risk mitigation through ongoing and proactive training, education, and monitoring. Our objective is to provide training to all our employees on health and safety and risk mitigation procedures.
  • We adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards by operating with honesty and integrity. Our Associate and Vendor Code of Conduct policies detail our requirements for expected behavior. Our objective is to have no instances of non-compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • We aim to promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Our objective is to train all our people annually on our Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Harassment, and Non-Retaliation policies, enforcement mechanisms, and best practices.

Our Associates consumed over 7,400 hours of training on ESG-related courses in 2023.
